I'm confident that America and Americans will survive and adapt but it is impossible to predict the coming transformation of America as it adjusts to a world of expensive energy and decreasing resources.

It may already be too late to save America as we know and love it. A far different country may emerge from the seeds that eight years of mismanagement have sown.

As long as America remains hooked upon oil and in spending more than we take in on unwise wars and in garrisoning the world it will likely take more than an Obama or McCain to save us from a long downward spiral off the king of the mountain heap.

Global Warming Gives a Serious Warning

Since the late 19th century, the industrialized world has been using fossil fuels, both coal and petroleum, to produce our comfortable, energy-intensive lifestyle. Over the next 20 to 50 years climate change, whether caused by natural or human factors, or a combination of both, will likely have a serious impact on huge numbers of the earth's population.

For awhile Americans thought that the saying "they sweat, we think" was cool. However, now thinking Americans are beginning to wonder if a service based economy will be able to compete in today's fast moving world. Nations that have concentrated on high tech manufacturing and that actually make things that people all over the world want are moving ahead economically while the US falls behind.

With energy prices moving higher over the long term there isn't one politician in sight who has the guts to tell Americans that many of them face a long term reduction in their standard of living.

The great tragedy of America in an age of peak oil is that the nation was built on and still depends for its normal functioning upon sources of cheap energy which are increasingly in short supply and becoming more and more expensive.
