When it comes to choices of shirts, men are particularly spoilt in the range of options. It seems as though there is a different shirt available for every occasion, whether it be worn for comfort, formal wear, sports or work attire. Just because a shirt was designed and made for a particular reason, does not necessarily limit it to this use. For an example, sports shirts are often worn for going out - this is just a glimpse at how versatile men's fashion can be.
One of the more expensive types of men's shirts is the long sleeve button down collar dress shirt. These shirts come in a wide range of different sizes, colours and tends to be very lightweight combining a sleek look with crisp lines. It is most commonly worn under suits or sports jackets and more often than not with a formal necktie.
A more casual form of shirt is the short sleeve polo shirt (or golf shirt). It is often considered to be more formal than other types of short sleeve casual shirt. These types of shirt are most commonly worn by golfers in Europe and America and is particular favourite of men during the warmer summer months. Unlike the dress short which buttons all the way down, the polo shirt tends to have a collar with just three or four buttons on the front top of the shirt.
The most popular form of sports shirt is the team jersey, unsurprisingly worn by sports teams. These shirts will have the name as well as the logo of the sports team and usually the number for a specific player. These are also popularly worn as casual shirts, especially to sporting events. The neck of these shirts tends to be a crew neck or in some cases a slight v-neck.
Normal sports shirts come in long or short sleeved form. In a way they are fairly similar to a normal long sleeve shirt, however is is much more loose fitting as more ventilation is required for sports. They can be worn with jeans and if style permits, can be substituted for the more expensive dress shirt when worn under a suit jacket.
Undoubtedly the most common form of men's shirt is the T-shirt which are a staple of any male wardrobe. T-shirts were originally made to be worn as an undershirt however over the years it has grown to become the most popular form of outerwear shirt. The colours and types of material used to make T-shirts vary greatly and the potential for customisation and design has only made it more popular. T-shirts offer a high level of comfort as well as being flexible, light and very affordable.
A common form of long sleeved, non collared shirt is the jersey which is a type of pullover that has no buttons. These usually take the form of a solid shirt which can come with patterned designs. The difference between a sweatshirt and a jersey is that the sweatshirt has a crew collar and is made of a much thicker and absorbent material. Jerseys are much more loosley fitting and are often worn with a collared shirt underneath, much like the way they are worn with sweaters.
Tuxedo shirts are specifically more formal shirts that are designed to be worn with a tuxedo or formal suit. It is not a short that is worn very often, being that it is usually saved for only the most formal occasions such as weddings. Tuxedo shirts are long sleeve shirts with buttons down the front and are usually white. The collar is closed so that it can be worn with a bow tie.
