Choosing bedding beyond hand me downs
Your first choice of bedding was most likely not really even your choice. The hand me down comforter or the bedding you stole right off your childhood bed when you first moved away from home was probably not something that you selected. You were dirt poor, young, and unable to go in search of the real grown up bedding that you are in search of now.
As you grew into a more mature adult and you started considering the possibilities for your living space, your choices in furniture and bed supplies most likely began to change. Either that or you are still living as a young single person at the age of 40 and you are happy with your childhood bedding from 30 years ago. When you start to decorate your living space now, there is more to consider. Quite likely, there is at least one other person to consider.
Most people have the option to choose furnishings and accessories for three main rooms of their home. In this case we will determine that you are going to design a bedding motif for your master bedroom, a guest room or an alternative room, and a child's bedroom.
Your choices for bedding in these rooms can make or break a good look. The way your choices reflect the personality and the overall look of your home, your choice in bed dressings can help the rooms in your home create a much different and beautiful look if you choose carefully.
If the master bedroom is loaded with alternative designs like plaid, stripes, or patterned wall paper you might want to look at what the overall color scheme is. Even amidst a myriad of patterns you can still find an overall color. Is it light or is it dark? The darker your bedroom is the more you are going to want to gravitate toward lighter shades for your bedding selection.
White is almost never a good idea unless you have no additional family members to mess it up. Dogs, cats, kids, and significant others can take a serious toll on white bed spreads and sheets. Even washing them can eventually turn a beautiful white set into a grey set.
The guest room is a neutral place, and if you have it decked out in a neutral look you might want to consider some dark bed options. Dark beds against lighter backgrounds are sharper, and more attractive. You need a bit of contrast to make sure that your rooms do not become muted or washed out. If you are not really sure how to represent this room, go for basic primary colors that will enhance the room while keeping the color selection relatively simple.
Choosing bedding for a child's room is a lot like opening a can of fun colors and delightful designs. While some kids prefer a clean, solid look, this is the one place where you can get really creative and have it work wonders for you. Children are usually excited to help you find colorful and fun designs that will add a new dimension to their room.
