Solve your storage problems with bathroom cabinets
Many homes have limited storage available in the bathroom. One solution to this problem is to install bathroom cabinets.
You will find that there are many forms of bathroom cabinets available. Some cabinets are actually a sink base. The sink base sometimes offers drawers as well as doors for storage of bathroom necessities. Drawers work well for brushes, both hair and tooth as well as toothpaste. The doors can hide essentials that need to be in the bathroom but are not meant to be seen by the guests who visit your home.
When choosing things to store under the bathroom sink, avoid storing cleansers that would be harmful if swallowed in here. The bathroom is a place where many children ingest these harmful substance since they have easy access to cleaners under the sink. Instead, store these items out of reach and out of site of children.
If there is an empty wall and extra space in the bathroom, consider installing a whole bank of cabinets along the wall. The cubbies provided by these cabinets will be a great place to store towels as well as other bathroom essentials.
You may be able to install upper cabinets above the toilet. Just be sure that the cabinets do not present a hazard for someone standing up form the toilet.
If there is just no room in your bathroom for cabinets, see if it would be possible to recess a cabinet that takes space from and adjoining room or closet. The only room taken for a door in the bathroom and storage can be very deep if necessary.
It room is not available in the adjacent room, a recessed cabinet can be made between the wall studs of the bathroom wall. Cut out the wall board and install the cabinet in place. Although the resulting cabinet is small, it is sufficient for storage of many of the necessities for the bathroom. When installing the cabinet above a sink, look for a mirrored door. In other areas of the bathroom, a wooden door that matches the other trim will look great.
When living in an apartment or other rental unit, portable storage cabinets may be the answer to your problem. Some are sold on wheels and can be moved out of the way. This may be a necessity for a small bathroom.
If you can find no other solution, then you might consider a surface mount medicine cabinet above the sink. They take up little space and can be used to replace the existing mirror. Open the doors and you will find some storage space.
Bathroom cabinets may be either pre-made or custom built. The cabinets that are pre-made are easily installed in bathrooms that have square corners. They will also save you money over custom made cabinets. If pre-made cabinets will not fit into your bathroom, then your only choice may be custom cabinets.
Be sure to finish your cabinets with a water resistant finish. Bathrooms have notoriously high humidity and if the wood is not protected, the plywood can begin to separate over time. Waterproof polyurethane is often a great choice for a bathroom cabinet.
If you are looking for a solution to your bathroom storage problem, consider installing bathroom cabinets.
