We really need to clean up our acts when it comes to our water, be it creek, lake, river or ocean. Our beaches are always dirty because people won't clean up after themselves. They will leave all of their trash where they drop it, and the sad thing about this is the parents are just as messy as the kids.
We will not only leave beer bottles, pop cans, and all kinds of take-out containers, but we also leave paper and just trash everywhere. If someone brought an umbrella to lie under and it would somehow get ruined, the owner might just leave it instead of taking it home and throwing it in the trash.
With the economy in such sorry shape these states don't have the extra money that it would take to clean up our beaches, so it should be up to us to see that they are taken care of. If this means that we would have to get dirty a couple of days a month, then I think that we should do it to keep these beaches open for us and our children to enjoy for years to come. If we don't start doing something now, we could lose the right to come on the beaches to enjoy the water.
This goes for our lakes and streams also. The conditions of most of the lakes in this country are terrible, to say the least. The creeks are even worse because they might be hidden from sight, and most of them are full of trash. These creeks might have bags of trash that someone just put there instead of taking it to the trash. They will have old torn clothes from where people have thrown them, and some might have dead bodies of animals that were either taken there to hide or where they were killed. Sometimes you would be shocked to find the things that you might find in these creeks. If we don't take it on ourselves to clean up these areas, our children or their children might not be able to use them or they might not even want to.
Most people today don't even want to go to the oceans to see what the beaches look like. They will not go near the water and not even notice the sights or smells on the beaches because nobody wants to even try to clean them up.
